Children’s Rights and Business Principles

Canadian Release

Corporate responsibility is top of the agenda with government and the private sector. The expectations of consumers and investors of corporations has never been higher. There is a global movement to go further and ensure positive social impact and performance. Children and youth are key (if often forgotten) stakeholders of business – as consumers, family members of employees, young workers, and as future employees. Join industry leaders to find out how business can strengthen existing corporate sustainability initiatives, secure social license and achieve better risk management; recruit and retain a motivated workforce and develop the next generation of talent; and build reputation by demonstrating respect and support for children’s rights.

This event will include welcome remarks from Lois Brown MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Development, and a panel discussion moderated by Diana Bishop, former news correspondent at CTV and NBC News, featuring:

  • John LeBoutillier, President and CEO, Unilever Canada
  • Doug Horswill, Senior Vice President, Teck Resources
  • Juanita Montalvo, Senior Vice-President, Sherritt International
  • Brendan Seale, Sustainability Manager, IKEA Canada

The Children’s Rights and Business Principles were developed by UNICEF, Save the Children and the UN Global Compact, in collaboration with global companies, to equip the private sector to respect and support children’s rights in the workplace, marketplace, environment, and communities.
