Sport as a Leader and a Lever for Social Change

Please join us on May 30th when the Canadian Club of Toronto and TO2015, the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee, welcome John Amaechi, OBE.

Multi-sport Games are recognizing their role as a platform for social change and as a driver for economic development.

John Amaechi knows this first hand. John is an organisational consultant, high-performance executive coach, New York Times best-selling author, and former NBA basketball player – the first to ever come out as a gay man. As a member of the London 2012’s Diversity Board, he has worked with his colleagues to ensure that all peoples, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status, are engaged in the Games and that the Games help build the leadership required in a globally inter-connected world.

Just over a year ago, TO2015 announced its diversity policy. Since then, the organization has been connecting with communities, advancing supplier diversity business practices in procurement and recruitment and leveraging the Games to raise awareness around diversity, inclusion and accessibility.
