Chief Executive Officer, BMO Financial Group
Darryl was appointed Chief Executive Officer of BMO in 2017. He chairs the bank’s Executive Committee and serves as a director of BMO Financial Group, as well as its U.S. subsidiary, BMO Financial Corp.
Darryl joined BMO’s investment and corporate banking business in Toronto in 1994 and returned to his hometown in 2006 as Head of Montreal Investment & Corporate Banking for BMO Capital Markets. In 2014, he was named CEO and Group Head, BMO Capital Markets, and in 2016 was appointed BMO’s Chief Operating Officer.
Darryl is a member of the Ottawa-based Business Council of Canada, the Washington, D.C-based The Business Council, and the Mayor of Beijing’s International Business Leaders Advisory Council. Darryl also serves as a director of The Bank Policy Institute (BPI), a nonpartisan public policy, research and advocacy group, representing leading banks in the U.S.
A long-standing community builder with strong ties to the United Way Centraide movement, Darryl has volunteered for these organizations in Montreal, New York, Chicago and Toronto. In 2018, Darryl became Co-Chair of the Inclusive Local Economic Opportunity Roundtable, a partnership between BMO and United Way Greater Toronto that brings together business and community leaders to develop approaches to reduce economic disparity in the region.
An advocate for BMO’s efforts to ensure a diverse and inclusive workplace, Darryl serves as Vice-Chair of Catalyst Canada’s Advisory Board and has volunteered with the Advisory Council of Women in Capital Markets.
Darryl is a director of Unity Health Toronto, which includes St. Michael’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Health Centre and Providence Healthcare, and serves as Campaign Cabinet Co-President for the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation. Darryl is also a director of the National Hockey League’s Montreal Canadiens and Alpine Canada, the governing body for alpine, para-alpine and ski cross racing in Canada.
Darryl holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario and has completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School. He is a past recipient of Canada’s Top 40 under 40® Award.
Monique F. Leroux, C.M., O.Q., FCPA, FCA
Corporate Director, Chair of the Industry Strategy Council of Canada, Vice-Chairman of Fiera Holdings Inc., and Former Chair of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Desjardins Group
Companion of the Canadian Business Hall of Fame and the Investment Industry Hall of Fame, Monique Leroux is a corporate director. She is Vice-Chairman of Fiera Holdings Inc. and serves as an independent board member of global companies such as Michelin (ML-France), Bell/BCE, S&P Global (SPGI), Couche-Tard (ATD) and Lallemand Inc (privately owned company). She also chairs Michelin’s CSR Committee as well as Bell’s Corporate Governance Committee. As such, she brings to these boards and committees her diverse experience, among others as Partner at Ernst and Young (EY) and Chair of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Desjardins Group from 2008 to 2016.
In May 2020, Ms. Leroux was appointed Chair of the Industry Strategy Council by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry of Canada. From 2016 to 2020, she was Chair of the Board of Investissement Québec. She is also vice-chairman of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (OSM).
Ms. Leroux is a Member of the Order of Canada, an Officer of the Ordre national du Québec, a Chevalier of the Légion d’honneur (France) and a recipient of the Woodrow Wilson Award (United States). She has been awarded Fellowship by the Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec and the Institute of Corporate Directors and holds honorary doctorates from eight Canadian universities in recognition of her contribution to the business sector and to the community
Mark Little
President and CEO, Suncor Energy
Mark Little is president and chief executive officer of Suncor Energy Inc.
Mark joined Suncor in 2008 as senior vice president, Strategic Growth and Energy Trading before becoming the senior vice president of integration following Suncor’s merger with Petro-Canada. Mark has also served as senior vice president, International and Offshore; executive vice president, Oil Sands; executive vice president Upstream; president, Upstream; and chief operating officer. In these roles, Mark’s accountabilities have spanned from operations in the Wood Buffalo region to operations in offshore East Coast Canada, the North Sea, and international onshore operations in Latin America, North Africa and the Near East, where he oversaw significant improvements in efficiency and performance, as well as portfolio growth. Mark has over 34 years of international energy industry experience, including 23 years at Imperial/Exxon.
A previous member of the Accenture Global Energy Board and formerly the Chair of Syncrude Canada, Mark is a current member of the board of governors of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) where he also serves as a member of the Executive Committee and the Oil Sands CEO Council. In June 2020, Mark was named Resources of the Future chair on the Government of Canada’s Industry Strategy Council.
Born and raised in Calgary, Mark holds a science degree from the University of Calgary and an applied petroleum engineering technology degree from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). He is also a graduate of the advanced management program at Harvard Business School. Mark has an Honorary bachelor of business administration degree from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) and was awarded the Canadian Engineering Leader Award from the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary in 2020. From 2003 to 2007 he served as Honorary Colonel for the 409 and 441 Tactical Fighter Squadrons at 4 Wing Airforce Base in Cold Lake, Alta., a role that reflected his commitment to the relationship between the Air Force, the community and industry.
Goldy Hyder
President and CEO, Business Council of Canada
Goldy Hyder is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Business Council of Canada. Founded in 1976, the Council is a non-profit, non-partisan organization representing the chief executives and heads of 150 leading Canadian businesses, employing 1.7 million Canadians and composed of every major industry across the country.
From July 2014 to October 2018, Mr. Hyder was President and Chief Executive Officer of Hill+Knowlton Strategies (Canada), providing strategic communications counsel to the firm’s extensive and diverse client base. Prior to joining Hill+Knowlton in 2001, he served as Director of Policy and Chief of Staff to The Right Honourable Joe Clark, former prime minister and former leader of the federal Progressive Conservative Party.
In addition to his achievements in business and public policy, Mr. Hyder has a long track record of service on behalf of several charities and non-profit organizations. He is a past co-chair of the United Way of Ottawa’s Campaign Cabinet, former chair of the Ottawa Senators Foundation, and a former member of the Board of Governors at Carleton University. Currently, he is vice chair of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada’s Asia Business Leaders Advisory Council, co-chair of Canada’s World Trade Organization Business Advisory Council, and an executive committee member of the Century Initiative. In addition, he sits on the advisory boards of two leading organizations promoting advancement of women leaders: Catalyst Canada and the 30% Club (Canada).
Mr. Hyder is a regular commentator in the Canadian media on business, politics and leadership. He is the host of the “Speaking of Business” podcast, which features interviews with Canadian innovators, entrepreneurs and business leaders. In 2013, he received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of his contributions to Canada. He holds a Master of Arts in Public Policy from the University of Calgary.
