HON. LIZA FRULLA
Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women (Canada)
How Culture Defines Who We Are.

Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Canadian Room

Minister Frulla will explain why she believes that Canada's cultural industries are essential to our identity as Canadians, and why we need to ensure our cultural sovereignty, while also being open to a world being transformed by technology, communication, and globalization. In addition, she will discuss her role as Minister of Canadian Heritage, and outline her Ministry's cultural agenda for the country.

Liza Frulla was first elected to the House of Commons in a by-election in May 2002 and was re-elected in 2004. In 2003, she was named Minister of Social Development. She has served as a member of the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates and on the Standing Committee on the Scrutiny of Regulations.

As the member of the Quebec National Assembly for Marguerite-Bourgeoys from 1989 to 1998, she held the positions of minister of communications, minister of cultural affairs, minister of culture and communications, and minister responsible for La Francophonie.

After leaving provincial politics in 1998, she returned to her first love, communications. She hosted her own television show "Liza" on Radio-Canada. She also held positions in the field of communications for several companies, including Labatt Breweries, CKAC, and the Vickers & Benson advertising agency.

Ms. Frulla received an arts degree from Collège Basile-Moreau and graduated in education from the Université de Montréal.
