In the last few decades, and in this increasing complex world, we have seen a seismic shift in the traditional definition of “philanthropy”.  New challenges call for new solutions and new ways of thinking and acting. This shift has pushed us beyond traditional “charity” models to a more “evolved philanthropy” that seeks to address social problems at their root causes with sustainable impact.

For funders, this means new models for Not-for-Profit engagement and partnership. It means a move from programs to collaboration; from “donation” to “investment”; from short term “fix” to sustainable change. And, importantly, to a broader view of community with a focus in outcomes that align to social and economic development, and environmental responsibility.

For the Not-for-Profit sector, the ground is shifting. NFPs are engaging in new ways with funding partners – through partnerships, ecosystems and networks that focus the collective on a clear goal. With traditional sources of funding on the decline, and increasing pressure on the sector to provide solutions, new models are emerging – Social Innovation, Social Entrepreneurship and Social Finance. Resource strapped NFPs have unique challenges in adapting to this new world order – but must change to thrive.

Our panelists will examine the new world order of Philanthropy 3.0 and, through case histories, cite examples of breakthrough collaborations that define the models for success. They will examine the opportunities for the NFP sector with a view to the significant and real challenges in extending reach, scale and impact.
