Canadian Culture - Thinking Big

Please join us on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 as the Canadian Club hosts lunch with distinguished director and producer Ivan Reitman.

After getting his start in films shortly after graduating from McMaster University, Ivan Reitman has become one the most successful directors of comedies in the history of filmmaking. As a director and producer, his films have grossed over 2.5 billion dollars and have helped launch the film careers of a number of popular stars including Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd and the late John Belushi. In addition, Reitman has been recognized for his skills as a Broadway director and producer, receiving Tony award nominations early in his career for the musical Merlin.

Throughout the 1990’s Reitman had a stream of successful movies that ranged from extreme blockbusters to just plain successful films. He also worked with some of the top names in Hollywood, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kevin Klein, Sigourney Weaver, Robin Williams, Billy Crystal, Danny DeVito and Harrison Ford.

Over the course of his career, Ivan Reitman has produced over 35 films including all his own movies and others like Space Jam, Beethoven, Road Trip, Killing Me Softly and the remake of the Pink Panther, starring Steve Martin, to be released in 2005. He has been honoured by the National Association of Theatre Owners, the Genies and Variety Magazine. He currently heads The Montecito Picture Company, a film and television Production Company with partner Tom Pollock, in association with DreamWorks, SKG.

Reitman has been married to former Quebec film actress Genevieve Robert for 31 years. Together, they have three children and live in Santa Barbara, California.
